Antarctica Animals

Antarctica has a large amount of animal life, almost all of it being dependent on the sea. As the animal life is dependent on the sea and are mainly warm blooded, they tend to be pretty large as a survival technique against the extreme cold.

Antarctica Explorers

The three most famous Antarctic explorers were probably Roald Amundsen, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and Richard E. ByrdRoald Amundsen was the first man to the South Pole and he made it back alive. Sir Ernest Shackleton led three explorations and on the third there ship got stuck and his crew and himself rowed 800km back to land. Richard E. Byrd was the first man to fly over Antarctica as a American Explorer.

Antarctica Claims

The first claim to Antarctica was in 1908 by the United Kindom. Six other countries have now made claims but nobody else has since the Antartic Treaty which "freezes" all claims. The largest of all the countries claims is Australia who has claimed 6,500,000 sp/km which is equal to 42% of Antarctica.
